You’ll want a good nights sleep before you set out to cross the Pyrenees from St. Jean to Roncesvalles, Spain. The 22.7km hike is considered by many pilgrims the most beautiful stretch of the route...Although the first 13k are all uphill, I am inclined to agree. | ![]() |
Tip: Pilgrim clothing should be tough, comfortable and
easy to care for. There are
many brands of light weight, synthetic fabric
clothing that is tough, can be hand washed
and dries overnight. Ex Officio
is one brand name and many others can be purchased
from Travel Smith at www.travelsmith.com.
For a one month trek you will need: two pairs
of short, one long pants that
coverts to shorts and one pair of dress pants. Ex Officio
shorts double as
a swimming suit (as do other synthetic travel pants). A couple of
light
weight long sleeve shirts are great and a couple of light weight synthetic
shirts for quick
wash and dry are a necessity. Synthetic socks dry faster
than cotton. Cotton may be
more comfortable. I wore synthetic and
got by with three pair. Take along Cool Max
brand name or any Lycra
blend underwear, three pair. A few
synthetic shorts usually
have web underwear built in, this keeps down the number
of underwear you have to bring.
