Travel Tips: Reach Mt. Rainier
from Seattle go south on I-5 to 518 to Hwy 164 through Enumclaw. Road to Carbon
River forks right (out of town) or follow Hwy 410 and signs to
Greenwater, Crystal Mountain ski resort and Sunrise.
Sunrise is our favorite starting point for day hikes and back packing. There are ample camp grounds, especially around Crystal Mountain. Lodging is available at Crystal Mountain. Summer of 2001 the mountain road to the Carbon river, Ipsut Creek campground was open again. Mowich lake also has camping and can be reached by a somewhat arduous dirt road, Hwy 165. Bring in ample potable water or a water filter pump. |
