MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS

Oyster mushrooms (Osteria sp.) were abundant, free for the pickings yesterday, Sunday, May 23.
Find them on dead beech and ash (with bark still on). Will be available for two months and more.
I like them better than morels, pan fry battered in Pango (Japanese bread crumbs). Great by 
themselves or with your favorite red or white oyster dip, also on pizza, eggs, sauces, Chinese dishes...

Use a field guide or two to verify (I use five different field guides. I am a serious and cautious collector).

Two photos below: Oysters typically grow in large colonies. Gilled, with attached gills, gills discontinuous (see second photo).
Stem (stipe) is off to the side, often stem is too tough (cut it away). White to light gray in color, yellowing as they age.>
