Miterwort, Mitella diphylla L. Saxifragaceae. Two leafed miterwort was used by the Iroquois for self purging, a decoction of the whole plant was used to induce vomiting. Like a female plant it was used for washing and sweeping to rid evil spirits and to neutralize bad luck. Seeds were used in ritual healing dances, eaten by Menominee. An infusion of the plant was used by Iroquois to cleanse eyes. |
