Cattail Dog Food

I always wanted to know if the late summer, fluffy female seed heads of  cattails were edible.  So I concocted this recipe...

Ingredients:
-1 c milk, one egg, summer cattail tops (fluff) about 5 cups, optional salt and pepper, parmesan cheese.

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a oven proof pan.
Add the milk and egg, stir.
Bake for about 30 minutes at 375 degrees.

And Voile, a casserole that is impossible to eat.  Chew and chew and chew...It doesn't matter--there is no way you are going to mechanically break down this primal mush.

So......

I sat the dish aside, acknowledging my failure.  Then along comes my dog Gypsy (who was building herself a new doghouse) and the rest is history:  Cattail Dog Food!  Rusty my Golden retriever loves the stuff.
Very high in fiber.
