Cleavers, Galium aparine L., is an early spring snack. In summer the
plant sticks to your trousers as you pass through the woods or thicket.
Makes a decent vegetable sandwich on toast. Sauté in olive oil with Portobello mushroom slices, onions. Melt sharp cheddar cheese over the mushrooms, onions and cleavers. Top with mayo, sliced cucumbers and a thin (1/16inch) slice of raw sweet potato. (more) Unproven Medical Use: to treat lumps on the breast, skin rashes, ulcers. Dose may be 4 or 5 grams of dried aerial parts to a cup of water off the boil. Topical use for skin rashes is a few drops of the alcohol tincture to warm water applied to the rash. Tea considered a diuretic. |
