Chinese Lite
Here are a few of the herbs used in my Herbal Preparations Workshops. Just a few uses to get you excited. I purchase them at Chinese supermarkets in Chicago's Chinatown.
Momordica charantia L. Bitter melon, bitter gourd is peeled and you eat the peel. Cook in a wok with lean meat and green onions, broccoli. Use rice wine vinegar, ginger, soy and a teaspoon of oyster sauce for the sauce. Add a few drops of sesame seed oil after it has cooked. Excellent digestive.
Angelica sinensis. Root in decoction as a tonic, promotes circulation, emennagogue, laxative, sedative, to treat rheumatin pain and especially.for menstrual disorders: menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, post partum abdominal pain
Cucurbita moschata (pepo). Pumpkin seed used to treat worm infestations manifested by swelling and pain in the abdomen. Thirty to fifty grams of the seed.
Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schmidt et. Miu. Decoction of roots to treat coughs, moistens lungs, to treat dry coughs. Treat dry mouth during fever, and to reduce fever.
Ligusticum wallichi In decoction for treating poor circulation, analgesic, sedative, headaches due to cold (sinus congestion), painful abscesses, post partum pain, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea.
Lycium chinense. A Solanaceous plant. Fruit in stew or decoction used as a tonic for the kidneys. Said to improve vision. For liver yin deficiency, blurred vision, headaches, dizzy spells, said to nourish semen.
Rehmanni glutinosa Libosch, Decoction of root to treat febrile diseases, fidgeting, rash eruptions, low fever due to fatigue to stem internal bleeding. Replenish vital essence of kidneys, nourish blood to treat dizziness, tinnitis, lumbago, amenorrhea, uterine bleeding
Sophora japonica. Leguminosae Flowers and flower buds used as hemostat, cooling, said to dissolve cholesterol and clots. As a hemostat for nosebleeds, hemorrhoids, blood in vomit, bleeding dysentery.
