Leaving the Picos de Europa we continued our tour east along the coast to Altamira.  These caves and their Paleolithic art rival Lascaux in France.  You will not be able to take photos in the cave....And most likely you will not be able to enter unless you have your tickets ahead of time.

Make reservations to enter the caves a year in advance (Write:  Centro de Investigacion, Santillana del Mar, Cantabria 39330 Spain).  If you do not have reservations go anyway.  The museum is the next best thing to going below.  It is an extensive exhibit of primitive art and technology.  The horses (right) have been bred back in an attempt to resurrect the Paleo ponies of Cro-Magnon Europe.
