Coast Live Oak, Quercus agrifolia,  Fagaceae, tough small leaves, hairy veined leaves, convex, tufts also on the underside.  Shrub to small tree of coastal areas of southern California.

Edible acorn, processed in water to reduce tannin (bitter) content.  Nuts were pounded, put in a leather bag and soaked in a stream.   Takes 300 to 500 pounds of acorns to sustain a family for one year.
