Red Baneberry, Actaea rubra (Ait.)
Willd. Poisonous plant. Native Americans used a decoction of
the root to purge afterbirth, to treat irregular menstruation, to treat
post partum pain. Chopped root infusion use as lactagogue to
increase milk flow. Root extraction used externally on difficult to
heal wounds, sores. Root infusion also considered an appetite
stimulant. Decoction of root used to treat arthritis.
Once again, plant parts are toxic. Decoction of root used for treating colds, coughs.
