Almendra (almond) from a tree growing on a beach near Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic.   This "wild" species has a very small, more cylindrical than flat seed.  It is very sweet and it is claimed by Dominicans to increase sexual capacity.  There are ample quantities along the beach that may be broken open with a rock and eaten.

Mexican Medicine:  Called Almendro, almond, Terminalia catappa L.  Decoction of leaves said to lower blood pressure and may alleviate heart problems, angina (unproven).    Excess dose of decoction said to lower sex drive. 

Animals studies showed ethanol extract (80%) of dried aerial parts was antimicrobial to Salmonella paratyphi.  Methanol extract of leaves shown to be analgesic to mice (see Rainforest Remedies, Rosita Arvigo and Michael Balick, Lotus Press, Twin Lakes WI.).
